Barbara Seranella
« on: January 22, 2007, 05:09:12 PM »

I see that Barbara Seranella has died.  When I attended the Chicago Bouchercon, there was much talk about how she had pulled through a serious illness and come to the convention.  She looked good then and was surrounded by many friends and fans.  Apparently she had liver disease and was waiting for a transplant.

I had a chance to chat with Barbara while I in Madison for Bouchercon. She was ill, but in very good spirits -  laughing and joking. What a wonderful person.

I talked with her publicist and friend, Debbie Mitsch, yesterday. The second liver, which seemed to be working well at the start, began to fail. Barbara was in Cleveland when she passed, awaiting another liver. But she was just too weak and it didn't come fast enough. She was only 50. I can't believe how many people we keep losing in this community. This is such a loss.

I met Barbara at Cape Fear this past year. She was a friendly and intersting lady. The mystery field has lost another special person.
