Title: Deleted the Old Site from My Favorites
Post by: JIM DOHERTY on October 30, 2006, 10:43:49 PM
I sort of knew that there would be no point in Lauri's and Joe's trying to fix the old site when it went down when this one was up and running, and running so well, too.

Nevertheless, I tried, just as a matter of form, to get on one more time today, and of course, wasn't able to.

So I finally bit the bullet and deleted the "Login" screen from my list of favorites.

Bob's done such a great job getting the new location going, and the fact of the matter is, the move seems to have energized everyone, and there seems to be a lot more posting.

But deleting the old site from my "favorites" list just seemed so final.

Ah, well.  It's just a new building.  The neighborhood's still the same.

Thanks again to Lauri and Joe for all the years of effort.  And thanks to Bob for allowing the fellowship to continue.

I felt the same way when I did that, Jim. A twist in the heart!

Ah, yes.  Me, too.  But as you say, we have reason to be very grateful to Bob, who has been super and incredibly responsive to all suggestions and questions. I feel guilty that he has so much work.

I can't quite bring myself to delete the link yet (then again, I still have my good friend's phone number in my cell phone directory and she died almost two years ago, so I'm not too good at letting things go).

I'm sure glad that Bob took over.

Joe,

I did the same thing -- five minutes ago. Just to prove something, I guess. I don't like change, but I can accept and adapt. This site is proving to be a fast favorite. I have bookmarked it and will visit as often as I can. It'll take some getting use to, but I'll look to it as a challenge. Loving the additional options.

Yes, I made it, guys and gals.  ::)

Golden,

I guess we all need to live by the motto of The Round Table:  "Adapt, adopt, and improve" .

I thought that was the USMC.

Glad to know I'm not the only one, Kathi! My bookmark's still in place, and my address book has a lot of not-so-recently departed loved ones anchoring the pages. Crazy, but it gives me a warm glow when I come across my mother's info, and she's been gone more than eight years.

Me too on the thanks, Bob. I'm not getting in here as often as I did at the old place and not reading every single message as I used to, but I too will adapt!

I thought that was the USMC.

I always thought their mottoes were:
(A) The Few, The Proud, The Brave
(B) When it absolutely positively has to be destroyed overnight and
(C) The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer

Joking aside, I have nothing but the greatest respect and admiration for the men and women who protect our country.

I'm not sure about this being the USMC's motto.  I always thought it was The Few. The Proud. The Marines.  But then again that may just be their advertising campaign.

Oddly enough, I remember the Round Table motto being quoted in a Monty Python skit (though not Monty Python and the Holy Grail).

I just deleted the old site address.  Dang...that felt bad!

I enjoy this new site a lot, but it just seemed like I was letting go of an old friend...  :'(

I'm part of an association (female version is known as 'the ladies circle') and their motto is "Adapt, adopt, and improve" ;D

I thought the Marine slogan was
"We the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, with so little, for so long, we are now qualified to do anything, with nothing."

If you like Monty Python and you are an 'Anglo-comic-phile' there is an author you might try (if you haven't found him already) Terry Pratchett. He writes fantasy novels that are humoursly disguised as comments on society's fallability.
