How to include an avatar????
« on: October 20, 2006, 12:25:37 AM »

Bob,
In the "Help" information I found this: select an avatar (personal picture) from a list (if provided by the forum administrators) or link to one of your own on the web.

Under the Profile information I found where you and Marcel had added words on the left hand side amongst the stars, special names, etc... When you look at that section when you are looking at editing your profile it says, "text/picture". So I went to Webshots and picked a picture and pasted the url in that spot, but it posted the url instead of the picture. Webshots has gotten really cool because it gives you the url for different circumstances including posting it on a Forum, so I think I did it correctly.

Any helpful instructions, words of wisdom or something. I'd love to see lots of folks start posting avatars just to see what they'd choose. More insight into a person's character.

Thanks! ;D

Brenda,

I turned off avatars to save bandwidth and storage space. Did the same with attachments for the same reason.

There may be a way to link an avatar from another site; I'll look into that.

Sometimes it takes therapy to put the past behind you. Other times, it takes a 20 gallon trash bag and a couple of cinder blocks.

Oh. Okay. No problem. Just thought if it was there I'd use it.  I certainly don't want to create troubles. Save the bandwidth, we don't need the avatars.

What are (should I say "were"?) avatars?

Books by Byron and Kay McAllister can most easily be obtained as e-books or in print from the publisher at http://www.writewordsinc.com/ For "Undercover Nudist," the print version is an improved version of the ebook version. The others are the same in both formats.

Avatars are little graphics, usually something like 40 pixels square (60 and 100 pixels are the other common sizes), usually associated with a specific user at an online forum.

If you look at http://www.globalaffairs.org/forum/showthread.php?t=48136 (another forum I hang out at), the graphics you see under the username are avatars.

My take on "avatars" (they are supernatural incarnations of a religious type in real life) is that they mark their owners as blog addicts.  :)
