Ingrid asked in the Intro thread about the *applaud* and *smite* features. I've seen similar things on other forums- I think it's a way for forum members to rate each other. It does have the flavor of Middle School about it- what with anonymous voting and all. I've been *applauding* everyone, but I can see that I've been *smitten* once already since I had a point and now it's gone. Ah well, I'll be like Earl Hickey, and assume that Karma knows what it's doing.

As for the post numbers (and Ingrid having more than me), I wonder if those totals were just from the last year or so. I've been pretty quiet for the last 6 months or so. It's rather nice not to have that huge number of posts listed (since I do tend to talk more than everyone else put together).

Someone smote me too, Kathleen. Don't know if I'll get any sleep tonight.  ::)

Argh!

The smiting was probably me -- I was reading smiTe as smiLe and thought I was going around smiling at everyone.  :-[ Sorry about that!

I kind of like the idea of being able to applaud individual posts because it seems like an nice way to say "ditto" without clutter, but the smiting thing is a bit nerve-racking. I wouldn't intentionally "smiTe" anyone because if I disagree, then I think I have a responsibility to articulate my reasons.

Carol- that made me laugh out loud. And I can see where *smite* might look like *smile*.

Kathi, definitely *smiling*    ;D

Well, as I've said elsewhere:  if I don't know what it does, I click on it.  So forget about odd smitings.  I don't intend to smite anyone ever.  And if I ever have such an inclination, I'll say so.

And Kathi, you've been missed.  Glad to see you around again.

I'm glad I'm checking all the new posts because I didn't even see those two things!!!  At least now I know what something on the new site is for.  Glad everyone else is working to figure it all out too!

I have always thought of being smitten as a good thing.
It all depends on who is doing the smiting :)

Smiting someone hip and thigh, as I recall, is not supposed to be a good thing.  :)  Of course, one could be in a  an SM club, which could make a difference...

And if you were "smitten" by love, Caro?

Any other "smiting" is just plain mean.  (And I thought it said "smile" at first, too.)   :-[

When I was stationed at Nellis, smiting cost extra in Nie County.

Hate the idea of Karma. Can't that option be removed? It's only likely to cause problems.

I smote someone, cuz I too, thought it said smile. Where does that get marked? Maybe I should "smile" at myself to find out, huh? And what does Karma mean?

I think if you "smote" someone accidentally, thinking the word was "smile," you should go back and click "applause" on the same person to keep their karma from going down inadvertently.
