Lee, your guest blog entry and the comments others made on the topic were sobering.  We ought to keep such things in mind when we're creating our fictional officers--and appreciate the real ones more than we do.  Thank you for the link.

Hey Lee,
Thank you - fascinating blog. 
And, I really appreciated your saying in a few words what really goes on.  There is too much pussyfooting around the topic.  I wasn't required to do as much training as the police were and I thought about that a lot.  If I was supposedly trained to carry concealed it seemed to me that I should be required to do as much practice work as everyone else.  It did make me feel as though I was a potential liability in a tense situation.

Fortunately, I rarely carried my gun, and even more fortunately I never used it except on the range.  Though I did practice getting it out and into position quite a bit on my own.  Figured while I wasn't confident about what I might hit, I could at least look professional that far.
