Title: The Poe Toaster
Post by: James on May 22, 2007, 07:04:57 AM
I have started to research some non-fiction mystery pieces about the father of the detective story, Edgar Allan Poe. As you may know, the 200th aniversary of his birth occurs in 2009. I live in Scotland, and Poe, in his childhood, spent some time here - in Ayrshire to be precise - where his stepfather was born, and where his real family - the Poes - emigrated from in the 18th century. So there is sure to be a lot of interest in the anniversary on this side of the pond.

Is there anyone on this forum who lives in or near Baltimore where he is buried? If so, can you tell me anything about the famous "Poe Toaster" that I haven't been able to get from websites and newspaper reports?

Does anyone know who this person is?  Are there rumours within Baltimore as to his/her identity?

If any of you haven't a clue what I'm talking about, Google "Poe Toaster" - it's a fascinating story, and a real mystery.
