One mystery, looking for a detective...
MichaelNeff:
As someone who has pitched editors and been in attendance at hundreds of pitch sessions, I have to sound a warning. It's a thin line between a high-concept endeavor for your character that will sell and one that will leave editors saying something like, "Well, sounds interesting, but the cozy demographic won't buy this."
For example, if you did a gaming or fantasy online/offline club rout with your main character and used that special world as a catalyst for plot, or employed MacGuffins unique to that world, etc., you might well get firewalled by publishing house editors who don't see that as friendly to the current cozy demographic they represent and understand.
You need to build off of successful comparables, convince them the new ideas will work.
It's hard.
