smarter criminals?
« on: October 02, 2013, 01:58:23 PM »

Once in a while I worry that some of the questions with answers on this site are so "good" (in the sense of accuracy, not virtue) that a murderer (or other criminal) could use them to commit a difficult-to-solve real crime. Is anybody else that nervous?

Books by Byron and Kay McAllister can most easily be obtained as e-books or in print from the publisher at http://www.writewordsinc.com/ For "Undercover Nudist," the print version is an improved version of the ebook version. The others are the same in both formats.

I suppose it's possible, B. L.

Someone contemplating his or her first crime might stumble on this site and explore it for clues on how to pull off the perfect robbery, murder, swindle, etc.

But I think it's more likely that they learn from other criminals.

Just my 2 cents.

I think TV and movies have the upper hand over us.  And, besides B.L., as smart as we think our antagonists are, they still get caught by the end of the story. ;D  But I confess that it pains me to think there are several cold cases in my previous department that linger on ad infinitum.  :-[

When I saw the thread I thought it was a comment on how the criminals always seem to outsmart the cops/FBI etc. in movies and on TV and often in books. Sometimes that plot device makes me quite impatient.

I'm actually a little uncomfortable asking questions about murder and weapons for fear of triggering some sort of government eavesdropping computer.  This site has got to be full of keywords in their filters :)

Reminds me of when I called around to attorney's offices and asked them questions about withholding evidence of a murder.  :) I don't know whether the guy believed I really was a writer or not.

Ha, that was pretty brave of you!

As an unpublished writer I would feel really self-conscious making that type of call.  Fortunately we have these forums now to get advice from the experts!
