Spell check woes
« on: December 31, 2006, 01:03:36 PM »

I'm moving this to Technology Troubles in hopes that perhaps more people are having this problem and we can figure it out.  For about two weeks now my Spell Check has been on strike.  When I invoke it I get a blue flash and that's it.

Folks, the one thing I know for sure - this is not a sign that everything is spelled correctly.  My spelling has been called creative, imaginative, unusual, but never ever correct.

I'm working here from an iMac on Safari.

I can tell you that the idea of sharing misspelled words with a writers group is most uncomfy.

Elena, do you mean your spell check in Word? I had the most bizarre thing happen with my Word spell check the other day. I asked it to find the word "woods" because I thought I overused it and wanted to change some of those usages. Instead, it kept finding words like "what," "where" -- everything that had a "w" sound. I shut the program down, then restarted the computer, but it kept happening. I finally discovered it had somehow switched the options to "words that sound like," which I never noticed even existed as one of the choices. So...look at the options and see if the wrong thing is selected it.

My spell check shuts down when it has too many misspelled words to deal with.  :)  But it notifies me.

Thanks Kris, I'm glad you got to the bottom of your Word spell check problem.  It's hard to find those teeny options.

Unfortunately, the spell check that isn't working for me is this one - on the Forum.  It did work, but a few weeks ago it completely stopped.  All I get when I click on it is a blue flash.   :'(

I can deal with words I'm not sure about, but I am totally capable of being certain something is spelled 'rite' just because I know what I meant.   ::)

Oh. I've actually forgotten how we access spell  check here. Please overlook my bad spelling.
