Ingrid,

I don't know why I got smited.  It happened before this thread even got started.  I logged in a day or two ago and noticed that I'd gone from 11 to 6 overnight.  Later that same day, I was at 5.  Somewhere or other I really offended someone, or several someones.

I'm back up to 12 now, so I assume all is forgiven.

If I had to guess, I'd say it was our set-to at the "Hard-Boiled" thread.  I thought it was a civilized disagreement between friends, but probably the bantering tone that I thought was obvious wasn't that obvious, after all.

For whatever it was I said, or did, I apologize, and I promise never to say, or do, whatever it was I said, or did, again.

I think maybe someone got "smite" and "smile" mixed up again.  I doubt you have offended anyone.  Your comments never seem to me to be mean-spirited.  They are well thought out and insightful, even when you are respectfully disagreeing with some else's point of view.

Well, Jim, I hope it wasn't that. I felt guilty belatedly because I had forgotten that you like "hardboiled." In any case, I use a very narrow definition for the stuff I don't like.  You use a much broader definition which includes some really fine writers.
I was thinking about this again because I'm reading Luiz Garcia-Roza.  I suppose you'd call him hardboiled. I find him really pretty warm and almost cuddly -- in spite of prostitutes and f-words.

In any case:  applaud all you want, folks.  But smiting is not nice!

Agree with you many times over, Ingrid.  I don't like to see smiting for any reason.  If anyone finds themselves smited (smitten?  gee those words seem so opposite), let me know and I will applaud you back to your former karma.  Life is too short for smiting...we need more smiling in this world.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
