Cop talk in the Great White North
« on: January 11, 2014, 08:52:35 PM »

I haven't asked anything obscure in a while, and I believe we have some Canadian members, so it's time.

- How do Canadian police officers refer to themselves generically? (Not rank, the occupation.) Do they use the term "cop," or is that an Americanism?

- I know that Mounties refer to other Mounties as "members." What do they call themselves? Saying "I'm a member" just seems to be opening the door to all kinds of abuse.

- I also know that the Canadian version of the Border Patrol calls Mounties "Ponies." Do other LEOs do that, or do they have their own terms for the RCMP?

- Is Canada one of the places where "a police" is used to describe an LEO?

Thanks in advance.
