Hi All
After much delay (I couldn't find the doggone thing!), here's the list of drug/herbal medicine interactions I have.
If you take any sort of heart medication, you should not take: Aloe, ginger, Guarana, Hawthorn, Licorice, MaHuang, St. John's Wort,Yohimbe.
If you take diuretics, you should not take: Aloe, Licorice
If you take anticoagulants, you should not take: Bilberry, Cayenne, Chamomille, Dong Quai, Feverfew, Garlic, Ginger, Ginko, Ginseng, Horse Chestnut Seed
If you take any sort of hormone, you should not take: Black Cohosh, Saw Palmetto
If you take Anti-hypertensives, you should not take: Black Cohosh, Cat's Claw, Ginger, Ginseing, Goldenseal, Licorice, Yohimbe
If you take CNS Depressants, you should not take: Chamomille, Ginseng, Goldenseal, Hawthorn, Kava, Passion Flower, Valerian
If you take Immunosuppresants, you should not take: Echinacea
If you take Phenothiazines, you should not take: Evening Primrose, Yohimbe
If you take Diabetes medication, you should not take: Garlic, Ginger, Ginseng, Goldenseal, Guarana, Horse Chestnut Seed, Licorice, MaHuang
If you take Acid Inhibitors (Zantac, etc.), you should not take: Goldenseal, Guarana
If you take CNS stimulants, you should not take: Dong Quai, Ginseng, Guarana, Kava, MaHuang
If you take Theophylline, you should not take: Guarana
If you take corticosteroids, you should not take: Ginseng, Licorice
If you take MAO inhibitors, you should not take: Ginseng, MaHuang, Passion Flower, St. John's Wort, Yohimbe
This is by no means all the drug/herbal interactions. Some of the herbals mentioned in the list I never heard of. I didn't include what happens because different combinations cause different effects. If you have any questions about specific drug-herbal interactions, shoot me an e-mail or post here.
Hope this helps.
