festival/book booth outcome
« on: October 23, 2006, 10:05:58 AM »

It's over and I survived.  I even mostly enjoyed it--I think because the spotlight wasn't really on me and I got to see some old friends I hadn't seen in ages.  ;D  I sold a whole four books, but four is better than none and I did get the name out a little more with bookmarks and recipe cards.  That's always good--or so I've heard.

The weather was wonderful, foggy and chilly when we got there to set up, but eventually turning into a sunny, dry, perfect autumn day.  The entertainment stage, not far from my booth, even featured a bagpiper as the fog was lifting.  (I viewed that as a reward, not a punishment,  :D and it fit in well with my new book.)

I didn't make the tablecloth, but did use some of the other hints in the "book signing in a box" article.  I decorated the table with an autumn theme.  The covers for my two cozies are done in autumn colors.  The new book has a sea shore in blues and browns, so it stood out a little more.  I had a drawing for "Gram's" goody bag, starring a loaf of homemade pumpkin bread and jar of homemade apple butter.  Gram is a character in the cozies.  I also put out some candy (thanks for the tip about chocolate, Kris!), but not many people were interested in it.  Of course when plain store bought candies have competition like fresh hot funnel cakes, what can you expect?

Bottom line:  The festival was fun, but were the results worth the effort?  I will probably never know.  Given the choice between a bookstore signing and some kind of school or craft festival, I would go with the festival.

Thanks again for all your suggestions and good wishes!

Of course, the bonus of having leftover chocolate is that you have leftover chocolate  :)

Sounds like you had a good time, Donna! Thanks for the report.
