In early 2010, Sisters-in-Crime and Bowker’s PubTrack Book Consumer research service completed a collaborative study of the mystery market. It profiled mystery readers' demographics, buying habits, influences, and other useful data. While it's a bit dated in its e-book figures, it's still a good resource for mystery/thriller writers looking to figure out how to market their books.
The report is available at http://www.sistersincrime.org/associations/10614/files/ConsumerBuyingBookReport.pdf (http://www.sistersincrime.org/associations/10614/files/ConsumerBuyingBookReport.pdf). Enjoy.

Thanks, Lance. It's a fascinating report. Some of the "differences" pointed out are too trivial to think much about, but quite a few need to be taken into consideration in deciding whom one is actually trying to reach.
