LAPD question

(1/1)

I posted this question on Police Procedural thread then found this thread. Teach me to not look around. What is the standard issue firearm for the LAPD? I'd like my character to use a Glock - can a detective purchase and qualify on another weapon besides their standard issue weapon?

Your officer can use a 9mm Glock if you choose.  LAPD officers can use either revolvers in .38 caliber or semi-autos in 9mm.  I believe the regular issue is a Berreta Model 92 9mm.  Special units like SWAT and Special Investigations Section use special .semi-auto 45's.  I believe the SWAT .45's are made by Kimber.  The SIS .45's are definitely Kimber.

Seems to me Harry Bosch, in Michael Connelly's novels, uses a Glock.   No reason your character can't.
